Erick Murai (MDC-T) is the current lawmaker representing Highfield East in parliament.
“It is the party which has hinted on the move because of my new position,” said Mwonzora.
A lawyer by profession, Mwonzora was voted the MDC-T’s secretary general in October last year beating the party’s then national organizing secretary Nelson Chamisa to the post.

“I grew up in Highfield and I am not new to the suburb and a lot of guys of my age who hail from this suburb can bear testimony to that effect,” he added.
But insiders say there were some senior party members who were not happy with the party’s intention to field Mwonzora in any Harare constituency.
“It’s true that there are “some” party members who are pushing for him to come to Harare because of his new mandate which we all agree demands that he should always be in the capital doing party duties since he is now more of a full time party employee, but we feel there is need for consultations before he is cleared.
“There is a danger of the party’s top leadership adopting the ZANU PF tendency of dictating and imposing decisions,” a senior MDC-T executive member who requested anonymity told NewZimbabwe.com.
